Christ commands us to “… serve one another humbly in love” (Gal 5:13-14) and to “love your neighbor as yourself” (Mark 12:30-31).
At Church of the Atonement we are trying put tools in place that we believe will help our congregation fulfill these commands. One of these tools is a listserv (email system) called Atonement Serving Atonement (ASA). The Mercy Committee has been doing a trial-run for the past several months and we are now opening it up to church members and regular attendees of Atonement.
The purpose of ASA is to enable listserv members to easily make requests for assistance to those who have joined the listserv, as well as respond to requests. Initially, we envision the ASA listserv as targeting small tasks, including forms of assistance that are limited both in total hours, and difficulty, so that volunteers are not overwhelmed. Examples include a need for a ride to and from a doctor’s appointment or help with moving something around the house. For larger projects, you may have to ask the Mercy Committee for help.
To join ASA simply send an email from the account that you want to use to: AtonementServingAtonementfirstname.lastname@example.org. (NOTE: Since this is within the Atonement community we ask that you use your real name associated with your email address.) After confirming that you are part of the congregation, you will receive an “Welcome” email from one of the moderators, either Steve Mann or Matt Lawson.
Attached to the e-mail will be two documents: “About ASA Listserv” and “ASA Listserv Rules and Etiquette.” If you do not receive a confirmation within a couple of days please follow up with Steve Mann or Matt Lawson (ASA moderators/administrators).
Once you have subscribed, you may send requests to the Listserv by sending an email to AtonementServingAtonement@yahoogroups.com.
ASA listserv requests and responses are limited to the congregation and are private among listserv members. All ASA requests will be moderated by Atonement members Steve Mann and/or Matt Lawson to be sure they fit within the ASA guidelines.
If you need further assistance or would like to post a request but don’t have a computer with Internet access, please call the church office at (301) 649-4131.
