Hi, my name is Seth Philbrick and I am the Director of Youth Ministry at Church of the Atonement. I am married to Rachel and together we have a son named Paxon. I have been in full-time Youth ministry for 14 years. I graduated from Gordon College in Wenham MA., where I received a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Youth Ministry and Biblical/Theological Studies. It is a privilege and an honor to serve the youth and their families at Church of the Atonement. If you are looking for a church with a youth ministry where your students will be welcomed, loved, and accepted, we would love to meet you.
I began my role as the Director of Children and Family Ministries at Atonement in October 2011 with a God-given desire to minister to families. Prior to my employment in this role, I worked as a volunteer in my home church for over twenty years; directing VBS programs, teaching, and actively participating in music and drama teams. Professionally, I was on the faculty of the Special Education Department at the University of Maryland for nearly twenty years, with a focus on teacher preparation, student advising, and research on education of students at risk for school failure. I am the mother of three (teens/young adults) and the proud wife of husband Rob, who strongly supports God’s call on my life.
I have served as the choral director in many universities since 1975 (Vermont, Middle Tennessee, Central Florida, George Washington, Washington Bible College, and Judson University, Illinois). I conducted more than 500 concerts with the Judson Choir and led seven international tours to Germany, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Jamaica, Brazil, and China. In addition, I also established and directed The Washington Kantorei, a semi- professional choir based in Northern Virginia. Between 1996 and 2012, the choir performed unpublished music from manuscripts edited by Voelker, especially music from Telemann, Schelle, and other baroque masters, and 20th century music from Scandinavia and Central Europe. After retiring from directing at Judson University, I moved to SIAS University in Henan, China for two years to direct choir majors and to teach conducting and foreign language diction. After my 2-year stay in China, I returned to Maryland to serve as the organist at Church of the Atonement. I also continue to be active in ministry to Chinese students and scholars at the University of Maryland. I am an active concert organist and have enjoyed playing concerts in the eastern United States as well as Finland, Germany, France, Switzerland, and Austria. I am especially fond of German baroque and French Romantic and modern music.

For more than twenty years, I have attended Church of the Atonement, and have been a member since 1998. I have served as the Church Librarian since 2001. I have also periodically been a member of the adult choir, and served as a Deacon as well as on the Session. I sought the Lord at an early age and was a member of other churches, but it was at Church of the Atonement that I made the decision that I wanted to be a disciple of Christ. I am concerned about having a thriving Christian community in a post-Christian state and society, and about defending Christian faith and life in our world today. This has been the focus of my development of the library, and my concern in the wider world, where I work as a part-time staff writer at a local policy institute concerned with domestic religious liberty. My desire for myself and the church is that we be faithful for the duration of life or until Christ’s return.
Hi, my name is James Olivarri and I am the Facilities Coordinator here at Church of the Atonement. I served one tour overseas as a proud member of the United Stated Marine Corps. In addition to my time in the service, I also graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor’s Degree in Advertising Design. I took on the facilities job in December 2014 because I enjoy working with and learning from many different people and their ministries here at Church of the Atonement.
Hi! As the Service Coordinator for Children and Family Ministries, I have the privilege of supporting the Children’s Sunday School Teachers and Nursery Workers as well as helping to find people to serve in the special events that Children and Family Ministries hosts. My husband, Matt, and I began attending Atonement together in 2009 because he grew up here and knew it was a great community for kids and families. In 2014, I left my job as a High School Counselor so I could spend more time at home with our three children. My work as the Service Coordinator has been a tremendous blessing because I get to serve alongside people who are passionate about doing God’s work and sharing God’s love with the kids in their lives.
I have been the Business Manager at Atonement for four years. I am a California girl originally, but am a New Englander at heart. I lived in Connecticut for over 20 years and love the small town feel. It was one of the reasons I was attracted to Atonement. It has a small town community feel to it and a large portion of the church has generations of families that all attend. I have been a life-long Christian but I have seen my walk with the Lord grow deeper and closer over the years. I would attribute that to His presence in my life and the wonderful angels He has placed at Atonement to help me see Him clearly and how He is constantly leading me. Over the years, I have led many Bible studies, taught Sunday School, worked with Habitat for Humanity and Rebuild Montgomery County, as well as helped out at various church functions and events. I recently graduated with my Finance degree from George Mason University and have over 30 years of business management experience. I am grateful to be able to use my gifts and experience at Atonement. Contact: firstname.lastname@example.org
