Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.
In accordance with the above, our mission is to lead women from unbelief to mature joyful faith in Jesus Christ by:
Teaching by word and example Biblical principles as they are applied to our lives;
Fostering Christian fellowship that stimulates love and good deeds; and
Developing gifts for service in the home, church, workplace, community, and world.
Women’s Spring and Fall Retreats
Two retreats are held each year. The Spring Day Retreat is usually held in Rankin Hall and features a speaker, music, a special activity, and a testimony. A catered lunch is served. The Fall Retreat is an overnight retreat at a conference center. The format is similar to the day retreat with the addition of fun activities to promote fellowship. The retreats provide a great way to make and develop friendships with other Christian women.
Women’s Summer Monday Evening Bible Study
Meeting each Monday evening in July and August.
The stated goal of the mentoring groups is for younger women to learn to grow in living a godly life from an older “sister” in the faith. Several groups meet once a month. Each group gathers at the home of the mentor for a meal, a practical Bible study, and extended prayer time. Sign-ups are only once a year in the Fall, with the groups keeping the same membership for the 7 months of the annual program. Groups concentrate on age/season of life issues. One group addresses the concerns of professional women. The mentoring program is designed for women ages 22 and up.
Thimbles of Praise
A group of ladies gathers each Monday at Atonement to make clothing, bags, decorations and toys to be sent to a Head Start program in West Virginia twice during the year. Contributions are received for toys, children’s books, notions, fabric usable for quilting, and linens in good condition.
Ladies’ Night Out
Recognizing the need for women to gather informally for fellowship, Ladies’ Night Out is an occasional event that provides just such an opportunity, A time and location is advertised, and if necessary a sign-up is posted. Whether it’s over a cup of coffee or a full dinner, ladies can relax and spend unhurried time getting better acquainted with each other.
In times of illness, surgery, new baby, or other such events, the gift of a meal is a welcome ministry. The Meals Team coordinates cooking and delivery. Additional cooks are always welcome and appreciated!
